| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the |
| 4 |
| Hersey High School Band in Arlington Heights on the occasion of |
| 5 |
| being the recipient of the Sudler Flag of Honor award from the |
| 6 |
| John Philip Sousa Foundation; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The John Philip Sousa Foundation's Flag of Honor |
| 8 |
| program is designed to identify and recognize high school Wind |
| 9 |
| Band and Symphony Band programs of very special excellence at |
| 10 |
| the international level; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The Sudler Flag of Honor award is the highest |
| 12 |
| recognition of excellence in a concert performance that can be |
| 13 |
| bestowed upon a high school band; to be nominated for the |
| 14 |
| Sudler Flag of Honor, a high school band must maintain a fine |
| 15 |
| performing organization over a number of years, including a |
| 16 |
| concert program, a marching band, small ensembles, and solo |
| 17 |
| participation by its members in contest-festival |
| 18 |
| opportunities; in addition, the band's conductor must have been |
| 19 |
| the conductor of the band for at least seven consecutive years, |
| 20 |
| including the year of the award, and must have involved with |
| 21 |
| professional band organizations and activities at the local, |
| 22 |
| State, and national levels; in its 26 years of existence, only |
| 23 |
| 51 bands in the United States, Canada, and Japan have received |
