| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Shirley L. Myers on |
| 4 |
| receiving the Distinguished Service Award from the Elmhurst |
| 5 |
| Jaycees; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, The award is presented to Shirley Myers for over |
| 7 |
| 35 years of service and volunteerism to the people of Elmhurst; |
| 8 |
| and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, She has been president or chairperson of the |
| 10 |
| Elmhurst American Legion Auxiliary, the Elmhurst Symphony |
| 11 |
| Auxiliary, First Congregational Church of Christ Deaconate |
| 12 |
| Board, Children's Home and Aid Society of Illinois: Elmhurst |
| 13 |
| Auxiliary, Elmhurst Afternoon Women's Club, and long-standing |
| 14 |
| chairperson of the Elmhurst Senior Citizens Commission; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Her outreach also exceeds the city limits of |
| 16 |
| Elmhurst with her service for five years on the board of |
| 17 |
| directors with Healthy DuPage;
she has been awarded both the |
| 18 |
| Elmhurst College Founders Medal and the City of Elmhurst |
| 19 |
| Character Counts Service Award; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Her professional career includes time spent |
| 21 |
| working with the Salvation Army Settlement House, Christopher |
|
|

| Settlement House, South Shore YMCA, Krannert Family YMCA |
| 2 |
| (Indianapolis, Indiana), and the Elmhurst Family YMCA; and
|
| 3 |
| WHEREAS, She holds a Master's degree in gerontology |
| 4 |
| administration and attends seminars given by the U.S. |
| 5 |
| Department of Aging, the Illinois Area Agency on Aging, and the |
| 6 |
| Aging Resources and Services Training Series done by Midwestern |
| 7 |
| University; in addition, she works in the family business, |
| 8 |
| Thomas 0. Myers Real Estate Organization, and raises her two |
| 9 |
| sons; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Shirley has put in countless hours in recommending |
| 11 |
| and initiating policies, programs, and services that address |
| 12 |
| the needs of Elmhurst senior citizens; she works with |
| 13 |
| organizations such as Seniors and Lawmakers Together (SALT), as |
| 14 |
| well as serving on the board of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital's |
| 15 |
| Home Health Care and Hospice Board; therefore, be it
|
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 18 |
| congratulate Shirley L. Myers on receiving the Distinguished |
| 19 |
| Service Award from the Elmhurst Jaycees and wish her the best |
| 20 |
| in her future endeavors; and be it further
|
| 21 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 |
| presented to Shirley L. Myers as a symbol of our respect.
