HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, Soil and Water Conservation Districts provide an 
3
invaluable service to the citizens of the State; they protect 
4
the State's rivers, streams, and other water sources from 
5
contamination; they also play an important role in ensuring the 
6
State's agricultural  health and economy; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, In the Fiscal Year 2008 budget passed by the 
8
General Assembly, approximately $7.4 million was appropriated 
9
for the operational expenses of Soil and Water Conservation 
10
Districts; however, nearly $6 million of those funds have not 
11
been released; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, The University of Illinois Extension offices 
13
provide many programs throughout the State, including 4-H, 
14
nutrition, and other agricultural programs; more than 2.5 
15
million Illinois residents take part in Extension programs each 
16
year; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, In the Fiscal Year 2008 budget passed by the 
18
General Assembly, approximately $18 million was appropriated 
19
for the University of Illinois Extension programs; those funds 
20
have not yet been released; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
2
urge the Governor to release the funds appropriated to Soil and 
3
Water Conservation Districts and the University of Illinois 
4
Extension program; and be it further

 
5
    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
6
delivered to the Governor, the Director of Agriculture, the 
7
Director of Natural Resources, and the President of the 
8
University of Illinois.
