HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to honor three police officers who 
4
fell in the line of duty; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Night Marshal Zachary Shipley was shot and killed 
6
on the evening of January 15, 1909 as a result of his 
7
enforcement of the local liquor laws; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was shot and killed on May 27, 
9
1967 during a traffic stop; and

 
10
    WHEREAS, Town Marshal George Tolliver was shot and killed 
11
on October 19, 1969 when he interrupted a burglary in progress; 
12
and

 
13
    WHEREAS, On September 11, 2007 the Clay County Board 
14
approved a memorial to honor the three officers; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Current plans are for the Memorial to be dedicated 
16
on May 11, 2008, the first day of National Police Officers 
17
Week; therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
19
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

honor these three brave men who gave their lives in the service 
2
of others; and be it further

 
3
    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 
4
presented to the families of the late Marshal Shipley, Trooper 
5
Doris, and Town Marshal Tolliver as symbols of our respect and 
6
esteem.
