| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the |
| 4 |
| Champaign Central High School Jazz Ensemble on the occasion of |
| 5 |
| being invited to the 13th annual Essentially Ellington High |
| 6 |
| School Jazz Band Competition & Festival in New York City on May |
| 7 |
| 15-17, 2008; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band |
| 9 |
| Competition & Festival is an annual event that is one of the |
| 10 |
| most innovative jazz education events worldwide; every year, |
| 11 |
| high school musicians from across North America travel to New |
| 12 |
| York City to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam |
| 13 |
| sessions, rehearsals, and performances at the Frederick P. Rose |
| 14 |
| Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, The Competition & Festival, held every May, is the |
| 16 |
| culmination of the year-long Essentially Ellington program, |
| 17 |
| during which Premium members are invited to submit a recording; |
| 18 |
| 15 finalist bands are selected through a rigorous screening |
| 19 |
| process to receive an in-school workshop in their community led |
| 20 |
| by a professional musician; the band then travels to New York |
| 21 |
| City to perform before Wynton Marsalis and a panel of esteemed |
| 22 |
| judges; and
|

| WHEREAS, The great talent and dedication exhibited by the |

| members of the Champaign Central High School Jazz Ensemble is |

| worthy of the greatest respect; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 14 |
| congratulate the members of the Champaign Central High School |
| 15 |
| Jazz Ensemble on the occasion of being invited to the 13th |
| 16 |
| annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & |
| 17 |
| Festival and wish them continued success and happiness in the |
| 18 |
| future; and be it further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |

| presented to Champaign Central High School Jazz Ensemble |

| Director John Currey and the members of the Champaign Central |

| High School Jazz Ensemble as a symbol of our esteem and |

| respect.
