| WHEREAS, On April 12, 2008, the staff and congregation of |
| 3 |
| St. Mary Immaculate Parish in Plainfield celebrated the 100th |
| 4 |
| anniversary of the church; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The April 12 celebration took place 100 years to |
| 6 |
| the day since the first Mass was celebrated in the original |
| 7 |
| church location on Lockport Street in Plainfield; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Today the church has a membership of nearly 7,000 |
| 9 |
| families and Plainfield is the home to 38,000 inhabitants, |
| 10 |
| significantly changed from the 1,100 residents of 100 years |
| 11 |
| ago; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In the 1950s the parish began buying land along |
| 13 |
| Route 59, and started their vision by first building a school |
| 14 |
| staffed by Franciscan sisters from Joliet; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, By 1970 the new church was completed; in August of |
| 16 |
| 1990 an F5 tornado leveled the school and seriously damaged the |
| 17 |
| church, after the school was rebuilt, Masses were held in the |
| 18 |
| gymnasium; the new church was completed four years later; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, St. Mary Immaculate Parish has endured tough times |
| 20 |
| but come through it as a family; therefore, be it
