| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, In accordance with House Resolution 510, offered |
| 3 |
| by Representative Ron Stephens during the 94th General |
| 4 |
| Assembly, it has been fitting that each year in observance of |
| 5 |
| Memorial Day that the Illinois House of Representatives has |
| 6 |
| continued the established memorial tradition of honoring our |
| 7 |
| fallen brethren by reading an annual list of all of the names |
| 8 |
| of those American soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines from |
| 9 |
| the State of Illinois that have given the ultimate sacrifice in |
| 10 |
| the preceding year since the previous tribute; therefore, be it
|
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that on |
| 13 |
| May 29th 2008, the Illinois House of Representatives shall read |
| 14 |
| the names of all of the soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines |
| 15 |
| from each of the branches of the Unites States and Illinois |
| 16 |
| military reserve and guard units, who have been killed in the |
| 17 |
| line of duty during the year since the last tribute; and be it |
| 18 |
| further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That the list of fallen heroes is to be obtained |
| 20 |
| by the Clerk of the House of Representatives no later than May |
| 21 |
| 23rd, 2008, and that the clerk may enlist the help of the |
| 22 |
| United States Department of Defense or the Illinois Department |
| 23 |
| of Military Affairs so that the most accurate account of fallen |

| soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines may be honored by the |
| 2 |
| Illinois House of Representatives as well as the State of |
| 3 |
| Illinois; and be it further |
| 4 |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House shall, as has become |
| 5 |
| tradition, preface the tributary reading of names of those |
| 6 |
| fallen heroes with the reciting of a quote from President |
| 7 |
| Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: "The world will little |
| 8 |
| note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never |
| 9 |
| forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to |
| 10 |
| be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought |
| 11 |
| here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be |
| 12 |
| dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from |
| 13 |
| these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for |
| 14 |
| which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here |
| 15 |
| highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, |
| 16 |
| that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, |
| 17 |
| and that government of the people, by the people, for the |
| 18 |
| people, shall not perish from the earth."; and be it further |
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution and a copy of the |
| 20 |
| ceremonial honor roll and program of the May 29, 2008 reading |
| 21 |
| of names be presented to the families of those fallen heroes; |
| 22 |
| and be it further |
