HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Frank and Sarah Porter on their 50th wedding anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Frank and Sarah Porter were married on June 15, 1958 in Douglas County; together they have six children, Commander Franklin L. "Pete" Porter, Roberta Brennan, Sheila Gustafson, Greg Porter, David Porter, and Matt Porter; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Frank Porter served in the National Guard; he worked in a chemical plant near Tuscola for 16 years and then in Illinois coal mines for more than 20 years; and

WHEREAS, Sarah Porter took on the tasks of raising the children and working part-time in a clothing store and then embarking on a real estate career in Sparta; and

WHEREAS, Together they built a successful business partnership that included rental houses, farming operations, and carpentry; and

WHEREAS, They embodied the American dream and the American spirit by working hard, being thrifty, and demonstrating high values and ethics; and

WHEREAS, They contributed positively toward their community and at various times took on the additional task of helping to provide for relatives and neighborhood children, who benefitted from their guidance; and

WHEREAS, They are highly regarded in their community while never seeking to shine the spotlight on themselves; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Frank and Sarah Porter on 50 years of marriage and on their contributions to their family and community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Frank and Sarah Porter as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
