| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation |
4 |
| of the West Village Christian Church on the occasion of the |
5 |
| church's 150th anniversary; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The West Village Christian Church was originally |
7 |
| known as Village and consisted of a few members who met in a |
8 |
| log meeting house; the name was later changed to West Village |
9 |
| when another meeting house was built farther east; in 1858, |
10 |
| after about 10 years of meeting in the log meeting house, B.P. |
11 |
| Reid and his wife, Hannah (Willis) started a school on Sundays |
12 |
| for the purpose of studying the Holy Scriptures; after starting |
13 |
| a "formal meeting", the charter members constructed a new frame |
14 |
| meeting house erected where the site of the present church is |
15 |
| located; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, By the winter of 1874, the West Village Christian |
17 |
| Church had grown to 76 members and had two ministers working to |
18 |
| preach alternate Sundays for about $60 a year each; a full-time |
19 |
| preacher in the year 1877, Brother Applegath, earned a salary |
20 |
| of $95 a year; several preachers filled the pulpit between the |
21 |
| early 1880s and the early 1930s, a time period that saw the |
22 |
| church's membership rise to 296 members; and
|

| WHEREAS, On June 18, 1933, the West Village Christian |
2 |
| Church celebrated its 75th anniversary on the church lawn with |
3 |
| an all-day meeting and picnic dinner; by 1938, the church's |
4 |
| active membership was counted at 235; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, On April 15, 1972, Brother Maynard Moser was hired |
6 |
| to serve as West Village Christian Church's new minister at |
7 |
| $145 a week; and |
8 |
| WHEREAS, In the summer of 2003, Derek Facculyn-Gous became |
9 |
| the newest minister of West Village Christian Church, where he |
10 |
| still serves the church today with his wife, Tressie; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Today, the West Village Christian Church seeks to |
12 |
| be a witness for Christ in the community and uses the phrase |
13 |
| "Enter to Worship, Depart to Serve" as a motto in their daily |
14 |
| lives; and |
15 |
| WHEREAS, The West Village Christian Church serves as a |
16 |
| model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of |
17 |
| the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
