HOUSE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  
3
Representatives are pleased to honor the members of the ABATE 
4
of Illinois Southern Freedom Chapter for their work to protect 
5
and conserve the rights of motorcyclists; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The mission of ABATE of Illinois is to preserve 
7
the universal right to a safe and unrestricted motorcycling 
8
environment; ABATE also seeks to propose and advocate actions 
9
that can be taken by elected and appointed officials to protect 
10
and conserve the natural resources of the State of Illinois, as 
11
well as to insure that sustainable use, recreational 
12
opportunities, and enjoyment of these resources is available 
13
for this and future generations through professional 
14
management of said resources; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, The ABATE of Illinois Southern Freedom Chapter has 
16
been an active presence in Southern Illinois, offering many 
17
services in furtherance of ABATE's goals; the chapter has 
18
initiated several Motorcycle Awareness programs at local high 
19
school driver's education classes in order to teach teenagers 
20
to be aware of motorcycles on the road; the chapter 
21
participated in a parade in Herrin and an IDOT Windshield Wash 
22
program on I-57 to further spread the message of motorcycle 
23
awareness; the chapter is actively involved in the Bears for

Little Buddies program, which assists children who have been 
2
traumatized; the chapter participates in the annual Easter Run 
3
to Anna Mental Hospital, in which the group hands out more than 
4
250 gift bags; the chapter also raises money for the 
5
Create-A-Smile charity in Carterville, which performs dental 
6
work for the needy, among many other events; and

 
7
    WHEREAS, The president and Board Representative of the 
8
ABATE of Illinois Southern Freedom Chapter is Darryl Smith; the 
9
chapter's vice president is Gary Robertson; the chapter's 
10
secretary is Lori Edwards; the chapter's treasurer and products 
11
coordinator is Deb Smith; the chapter's safety and education 
12
coordinator is Bradley Smith; the chapter's legislative 
13
coordinator is Kevin Kinley; the chapter's membership, 
14
activities, and public relations coordinator is Joyce Smith; 
15
and the chapter's sergeant-at-arms is Steve Smith; and


 
16
    WHEREAS, The members of the ABATE of Illinois Southern 
17
Freedom Chapter serve as models of hard work, integrity, and 
18
dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, 
19
be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
21
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
22
honor the members of the ABATE of Illinois Southern Freedom 
23
Chapter for the services they provide to their community and

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to ABATE of Illinois Southern Freedom Chapter

President  Darryl Smith as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
