HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Monarch Award Foundation of Xi Nu Omega Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on their 26th annual fundraiser, Chapeaux and Fedoras: A Jazzy Afternoon, to be held on September 13, 2008; and

WHEREAS, The Monarch Award Foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide education and social services to the Chicago community; the Foundation has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships and charitable contributions since its beginnings in 1983; and

WHEREAS, One of the Foundation's signature programs is The Teen Esteem Program; each year the Foundation accepts applications from teenage young ladies ranging in age 14-18 years in order to provide them with mentors and role models for a full calendar year; as the young ladies graduate from high school and attend college, they are monitored and tracked in order to note their successes; the Foundations purpose is centered on the following with their mentorship of The Teen Esteem girls: economic empowerment, scholastic achievement, service within the community, youth leadership, self esteem, and strong moral character; and

WHEREAS, The Foundation's major fundraiser is the annual Monarch Awards Gala, which has been successfully executed for the past 25 years; all profits from the Gala are used to provide scholarships and donations to charitable organizations; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we create the founders and members of the Monarch Award Foundation on their 26th annual fundraiser and wish them continued success in helping and educating others; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Adrienne Upchurch, President of the Monarch Award Foundation, as a symbol of our respect.
