| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Manhattan Fire |
| 4 |
| Chief John "Jack" Fitzgerald on his retirement from the |
| 5 |
| Manhattan Fire Department; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He joined the Manhattan Fire Department on January |
| 7 |
| 13, 1956; in 1967 he was promoted to Assistant Chief and became |
| 8 |
| Mayor of Manhattan that same year, serving as Mayor until 1989 |
| 9 |
| and becoming the longest-serving Mayor of Manhattan; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 1992 and Chief |
| 11 |
| in 1998; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He became an Illinois State Certified Firefighter |
| 13 |
| II in 1984, an Illinois State Certified Firefighter III in |
| 14 |
| 1993; and was an Illinois State Certified Paramedic from 1976 |
| 15 |
| to 2006; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, He was the recipient of the Officer of the Year |
| 17 |
| Award from the Manhattan Fire Department in 1974, 1983, and |
| 18 |
| 1992; he was the recipient of the EMS Award from the Manhattan |
| 19 |
| Fire Department in 1992; he was the recipient of the Paramedic |
| 20 |
| of the Year Award from the Will Grundy EMS System in 1987; and |
| 21 |
| he was the recipient of the Dr. William McConnell Excellence in |
