HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of  
3
Representatives are pleased to honor Marie Drake for her many 
4
years of dedicated service to her family, church, community, 
5
State, and nation; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Marie Drake has been an active member of the East 
7
St. Louis community for over 55 years, with 53 of those years 
8
spent in the community known as "Pollack Town"; she was 
9
instrumental in creating the Illinois Avenue Park in her 
10
neighborhood along with the help of the University of Illinois, 
11
receiving a bench at the park in her honor; and

 
12
    WHEREAS, Marie Drake was employed with the federal 
13
government for over 20 years at Jefferson Barracks and John 
14
Cochran Hospitals, where she received many citations for her 
15
work; she continued her services at the hospital after her 
16
retirement; she also volunteers with the Department of 
17
Corrections, visiting many institutions throughout the State 
18
to minister and distribute toiletries to the many men and women 
19
residing there; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, Marie Drake has been a very active member at her 
21
church, the Pilgrim Temple C.M.E., for over 30 years; and

    WHEREAS, Marie Drake and her husband, the late Mather L. 
2
Drake, raised five children, Dr. Lee A. Drake, Charles D. Drake 
3
Sr., Patricia Galloway, Mildred Drake-Washington, and Sheila 
4
Fields, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; 
5
and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Marie Drake serves as a model of hard work, 
7
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
8
Illinois; therefore, be it

 
9
    RESOLVED, BY THE  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
10
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
11
honor Marie Drake for her many years of dedicated service and 
12
wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be 
13
it further

 
14
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Marie Drake as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
