| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Richard Steele of |
| 4 |
| Morris on the occasion of being selected as an inductee to the |
| 5 |
| 2008 Illinois Senior Hall of Fame; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Steele was employed as a radio announcer |
| 7 |
| from 1964 until 1999; he currently hosts a popular talk show |
| 8 |
| every Sunday for WCSJ radio in Morris, in which he highlights |
| 9 |
| local events and organizations; he is well known in the Morris |
| 10 |
| area as a tireless promoter of youth sports programs; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, After retiring from radio, Richard Steele chose to |
| 12 |
| help his community; in 2001, he was appointed to the position |
| 13 |
| of Morris Township Trustee and Road Trustee; he ran for a |
| 14 |
| position on the Grundy County Board in 2002 and was elected |
| 15 |
| with the highest number of votes; as a County Board member, he |
| 16 |
| serves on numerous committees, including the Environmental, |
| 17 |
| Health, Emergency Management, County Home, and Election |
| 18 |
| committees, as well as the Route 66 Executive Board and the |
| 19 |
| Emergency Food and Shelter Board; he also serves on Illinois |
| 20 |
| State Representative Careen Gordon's Senior Advisory and |
| 21 |
| Economic Development committees; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Steele is well known in his community as a |
|

| dedicated volunteer; he helped raise over $100,000 to help |
| 2 |
| underprivileged children get Christmas presents and school |
| 3 |
| supplies; he helped organize the "Light Up the Night Event" in |
| 4 |
| October of 2007, which seeks to prevent domestic violence, |
| 5 |
| honor those who help prevent domestic violence, and give |
| 6 |
| resources to those affected by domestic violence; he helped |
| 7 |
| organize the "Hands Around the Courthouse" events to raise |
| 8 |
| awareness of child abuse; he has also helped raise awareness |
| 9 |
| for such causes as the United Way, Operation St. Nick, the |
| 10 |
| Veteran's Assistance program, and the Grundy County Corn |
| 11 |
| Festival, among many others; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Steele has held memberships at the Lions |
| 13 |
| Club, the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, the Morris High |
| 14 |
| Music Boosters and football team, the Quarterback Club in |
| 15 |
| Morris, and the Grundy County Centennial Committee; he |
| 16 |
| currently serves as a member of the Grundy County Justice |
| 17 |
| Assistance Board, a board that helps victims of crimes pay for |
| 18 |
| needed resources such as counseling and funerary expenses; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Steele has been the recipient of numerous |
| 20 |
| awards and accolades for his many works; he was inducted into |
| 21 |
| the Coal Valley Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984, the |
| 22 |
| Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998, |
| 23 |
| and the Grundy County Senior Hall of Fame in 1999; he was the |
| 24 |
| recipient of the State Police Award for Public Service in 1999; |

| on the day of his retirement in 1999, the City of Morris |
| 2 |
| proclaimed the day "Dick Steele Day" in honor of his |
| 3 |
| accomplishments; and |
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Richard Steele's dedication to his community and |
| 5 |
| his willingness to those in need make him a supremely qualified |
| 6 |
| inductee to the Illinois Senior Hall of Fame; therefore, be it
|
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 8 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
| 9 |
| congratulate Richard Steele of Morris on the occasion of being |
| 10 |
| selected as an inductee to the 2008 Illinois Senior Hall of |
| 11 |
| Fame and wish him continued success and happiness in his future |
| 12 |
| endeavors; and be it further
|
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 14 |
| presented to Richard Steele as a symbol of our esteem and |
| 15 |
| respect.
