| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to designate days in the State of |
| 4 |
| Illinois to help our citizens learn more about pressing issues |
| 5 |
| that effect the State; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, October 27, 2008 is the first day of Red Ribbon |
| 7 |
| Week, the flagship awareness initiative of the National Family |
| 8 |
| Partnership's Red Ribbon Campaign, the oldest and largest drug |
| 9 |
| prevention program in the nation; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, "Lock Your Meds Day" is a targeted call to action |
| 11 |
| for parents, asking them to take a five-part pledge to prevent |
| 12 |
| children's prescription drug abuse; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, "Lock Your Meds Day" encourages parents to talk to |
| 14 |
| their children about the dangers of taking medications without |
| 15 |
| a prescription, setting clear rules about not sharing medicine |
| 16 |
| and using medication only as prescribed, locking up medicine to |
| 17 |
| prevent children and guests from accessing it, taking stock of |
| 18 |
| our medicine and regularly checking to see that nothing is |
| 19 |
| missing, and encouraging family and friends to follow the same |
| 20 |
| guidelines to keep children safe from prescription drugs; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Statistics show that more than 3.1 million teens |
