HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Javette Orgain 
4
on the occasion of her being elected as president of the 
5
Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians  is a 
7
professional membership society representing 3,800 family 
8
physicians, residents, and medical students throughout the 
9
State; the organization advocates for reforms in the public and 
10
private health care systems in order to promote primary care 
11
and attract more physicians to the specialty of family 
12
medicine; and

 
13
    WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain, a native resident of Chicago, 
14
is a board certified Associate Professor of Clinical Family 
15
Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of 
16
Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine since March of 
17
1991; she serves as the chairperson of the Illinois State Board 
18
of Health and Assistant Dean of the UICCOM Urban Health 
19
Program; she also served as the 100th President of the National 
20
Health Association; and

 
21
    WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain holds the distinction of being 
22
the first African-American president of the Illinois Academy of

Family Physicians; she will be installed by American Academy of 
2
Family Physicians past president Warren Jones, who was the 
3
first African-American to be elected president of the AAFP in 
4
2002; and

    WHEREAS, Dr. Javette Orgain serves as a model of hard work, 
6
integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of 
7
Illinois; therefore, be it

 
8
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9
NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 
10
congratulate Dr. Javette Orgain on the occasion of her being 
11
elected as president of the Illinois Academy of Family 
12
Physicians and wish her continued success and happiness in the 
13
future; and be it further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
15
presented to Dr. Javette Orgain as a symbol of our esteem and 
16
respect.
