| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to extend their
best wishes to the | ||||||
| 4 | founders of Purpose Over Pain, an organization that was formed | ||||||
| 5 | to work
with the community in reducing firearm violence and | ||||||
| 6 | working directly with victims of gun
violence, for their | ||||||
| 7 | Citizens Action Award from the Illinois Council Against Handgun | ||||||
| 8 | Violence; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, In 2007, the parents of several young men and | ||||||
| 10 | women who had been tragically
killed due to gun violence came | ||||||
| 11 | together and founded Purpose Over Pain; these individuals, Ron | ||||||
| 12 | and Annette Holt, Pamela and Tom Bosley, Gloria and Jose | ||||||
| 13 | Padron, Alice
Norris, Denise Reed, and Willie Williams, are | ||||||
| 14 | being honored for their dedication and purpose; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, These parents have all paid the ultimate price, | ||||||
| 16 | but have found support and strength
from one another to share | ||||||
| 17 | their experiences so that others will not have to go through | ||||||
| 18 | the
pain they have had to endure; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Over the last two years, the founders of Purpose | ||||||
| 20 | Over Pain have become some of
our state's strongest citizen | ||||||
| 21 | advocates in the fight for stronger gun control laws; they have | ||||||
| 22 | spoken
to thousands of people across Illinois about the impact | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | that gun violence has had on our communities,
along with the | ||||||
| 2 | personal impact upon their own lives; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, The mission of Purpose Over Pain concentrates on a | ||||||
| 4 | number of goals that will
help in the fight to reduce gun | ||||||
| 5 | violence; in addition to working for stronger laws and | ||||||
| 6 | educating the
public about the negative effects of gun | ||||||
| 7 | violence, the founders are providing peer support to the
| ||||||
| 8 | parents of children who are killed or wounded by such acts; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, In addition, the organization serves as a referral | ||||||
| 10 | source to connect victim
families with crisis support groups, | ||||||
| 11 | therapy, and government assistance that is provided to families
| ||||||
| 12 | victimized by gun violence; in addition, these dedicated | ||||||
| 13 | persons are working to address the needs
of at-risk youth | ||||||
| 14 | through programs that teach these young people to identify and | ||||||
| 15 | avoid negative
influences that could lead them to become | ||||||
| 16 | involved with guns, averting senseless acts
of violence; | ||||||
| 17 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | proudly recognize the strength
and compassion each member has | ||||||
| 21 | put forth in helping Illinois families, and we extend our
| ||||||
| 22 | congratulations to each for their efforts concerning gun | ||||||
| 23 | violence control through Purpose
Over Pain; and be it further
| ||||||
