2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation | ||||||
4 | of the Dutchtown Church of the Brethren on the occasion of the | ||||||
5 | church's 150th anniversary on September 20, 2008; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Milledgeville Church of the Brethren was first | ||||||
7 | organized in the fall of 1858 by a group of Pennsylvania Dutch | ||||||
8 | who had settled in the area; after purchasing land from the | ||||||
9 | government for $1.50 an acre, a Love Feast was held at the | ||||||
10 | church's inaugural organization meeting; the church originally | ||||||
11 | consisted of 30 charter members; charter member Henry Myers, | ||||||
12 | originally from Maryland, was instrumental in organizing the | ||||||
13 | church, with him and his family traveling by horse and wagon, a | ||||||
14 | cargo boat, and train to get to Dutchtown; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The Dutchtown Church of the Brethren's first | ||||||
16 | church services were held in Henry Myers' home and later were | ||||||
17 | held in a schoolhouse; around the year of 1860, the ground was | ||||||
18 | dedicated for the first dedicated church and cemetery, with the | ||||||
19 | church building finished in 1866; the church that was first | ||||||
20 | built, a 30 by 66 foot building, still stands to this day with | ||||||
21 | some additions, namely a remodeling project in 1915, another | ||||||
22 | extensive remodeling project in 1955, and a remodeling project | ||||||
23 | currently in progress; and

1 | WHEREAS, Today, the Dutchtown Church of the Brethren serves | ||||||
2 | families from the areas of Milledgeville, Shannon, Lanark, | ||||||
3 | Chadwick, Sterling, Polo, and Rock Falls; the church has a | ||||||
4 | strong ministry for children and youth, as well as junior and | ||||||
5 | senior high youth groups; the church also has church camp | ||||||
6 | services, coffee hours on Sundays, choir services, group meals, | ||||||
7 | a Young at Heart class that meets regularly and invites those | ||||||
8 | who do not attend church, the Women of Dutchtown Banquet, and | ||||||
9 | traveling groups that help rebuild homes that have been ruined | ||||||
10 | in natural disasters, all led by the church's current pastor, | ||||||
11 | Pastor Rick Koch; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The Dutchtown Church of the Brethren serves as a | ||||||
13 | model of piety, charity, and community involvement for the | ||||||
14 | people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | congratulate the congregation of the Dutchtown Church of the | ||||||
18 | Brethren on the occasion of the church's 150th anniversary and | ||||||
19 | wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be | ||||||
20 | it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the Dutchtown Church of the Brethren as a symbol |
