| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Reverend David |
| 4 |
| Engbarth of Aurora for being selected as the 2008 Kane County |
| 5 |
| Citizen of the Year; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend David Engbarth is the second recipient of |
| 7 |
| the Roscoe Ebey Citizen of the Year Award, which was named for |
| 8 |
| an 83-year-old World War II veteran who was murdered at his |
| 9 |
| home in May of 2007; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend David Engbarth has had a long history of |
| 11 |
| service in the Aurora religious community; he first served the |
| 12 |
| Aurora community in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when he |
| 13 |
| served at Holy Angels Catholic Church on Aurora's west side; |
| 14 |
| finding a calling in 1981, he asked to be relocated to a |
| 15 |
| Hispanic-based parish; in 1993, he relocated to the St. |
| 16 |
| Nicholas Catholic Church; he currently serves as pastor of Our |
| 17 |
| Lady of Good Counsel Church; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Reverend David Engbarth and pastor Dan Haas, of |
| 19 |
| Aurora Community Church, co-founded the Prayer Coalition for |
| 20 |
| Reconciliation, a group that holds prayer vigils for victims of |
| 21 |
| violence in Aurora; he has also served as a volunteer chaplain |
| 22 |
| at the Kane County Jail, where he visited inmates about once a |
