    Amends the Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act.  Provides that  all food pantries shall register with the State-certified local public health department having jurisdiction in the area where the food pantry is located.  Effective January 1, 2009.

    AN ACT concerning health.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Food Handling Regulation Enforcement Act is 
5
amended  by adding Section 3.2 as follows:

    (410 ILCS 625/3.2  new)

    Sec. 3.2. Food pantries. In this Section, "food pantry" 
8
means a public or private non-profit organization that 
9
distributes food to persons or families at no cost to relieve 
10
situations of emergency or distress. All food pantries shall 
11
register with the State-certified local public health 
12
department having jurisdiction in the area where the food 
13
pantry is located.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January 
15
1, 2009.
