| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Joseph B. Cicero of the Albany Park |
| 4 |
| neighborhood of Chicago, who passed away on January 12, 2007; |
| 5 |
| and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Cicero was born in Chicago in 1938; he was a |
| 7 |
| graduate of Amundsen High School, where he played center on the |
| 8 |
| football team; he was a 1960 graduate of the University of |
| 9 |
| Illinois and a 1963 graduate of the University of Chicago Law |
| 10 |
| School; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Cicero worked as a labor-union attorney for |
| 12 |
| the Central States Joint Board AFL-CIO until 1976, when he took |
| 13 |
| the full-time position of executive director of the North River |
| 14 |
| Commission, an umbrella organization made up of about 100 |
| 15 |
| smaller neighborhood organizations, he retired from that |
| 16 |
| position after 21 years; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Joseph Cicero worked to save the Northwest Side |
| 18 |
| nature preserve from developers in the early 1970s; today the |
| 19 |
| property is known as North Park Village, and includes a park, |
| 20 |
| fitness center, educational facilities, subsidized senior |
| 21 |
| citizen housing, and 46 acres of nature preserve; and
