SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to express
3 their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant
4 Jason C. Denfrund, who died on Christmas Day, 2006, defending
5 our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Sergeant Denfrund was assigned to the 10th
7 Mountain Division (Light Infantry) in Fort Drum, New York; he
8 was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, "Golden Dragons",
9 14th Infantry Regiment in Iraq; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Jason Denfrund grew up in Cattaraugus, New York,
11 where he played football and was Captain of the Cattaraugus
12 Central High School football team in 1999; he also attended
13 SUNY Brockport, where he also played football; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Jason Denfrund enlisted in the United States Army
15 in June of 2001; he completed basic and advanced training at
16 Fort Benning, Georgia; his first duty assignment was in the 2nd
17 Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade at Rose Barracks in Vilseck,
18 Germany; in December of 2003 he was reassigned to Fort Drum;
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, Sergeant Denfrund was previously deployed to the
21 Balkans and was on his third tour of duty to Iraq; he received

1 the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army
2 Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National
3 Defense Service Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Iraq
4 Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
5 Army Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Infantryman
6 Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge, and the Driver Badge; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund is survived by his
8 wife, Melissa (Sanzone); his daughter, Chloe; and his son,
9 Jayden; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn this brave
12 soldier, proud father, and loving husband and extend to the
13 family and friends of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund our sincere
14 sympathies at this time; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Sergeant Jason C.
16 Denfrund and his willingness to serve his country, which led to
17 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Sergeant Jason C. Denfrund as a
20 symbol of our respect for his dedication to our country.
