| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the passing of Chicago Police Officer Jose Vazquez on |
| 4 |
| February 12, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Officer Vazquez joined the Chicago Police |
| 6 |
| Department in 1998, serving six of those years as a patrol |
| 7 |
| officer in a Northwest Side area that includes several |
| 8 |
| neighborhoods with serious Hispanic gang problems; he was |
| 9 |
| promoted to special operations section in July of 2004, where |
| 10 |
| he was deployed to gang and drug hot spots across the City of |
| 11 |
| Chicago; he was scheduled to join the elite SWAT unit in two |
| 12 |
| weeks; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Officer Jose Vazquez will be deeply |
| 14 |
| felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife, |
| 15 |
| Onelia Vazquez; his parents, Raul and Carmen Vazquez; his |
| 16 |
| siblings Raul, Jaqueline, Nancy, and Joaquin; his nephew |
| 17 |
| Xavier; his many friends and fellow officers of the Chicago |
| 18 |
| Police Department; and the residents of the West Side of |
| 19 |
| Chicago, where he dedicated his career to making them feel |
| 20 |
| safer; therefore, be it

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the memory of |
