SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3
learn of the death of Della Merna of Canton, who passed away on 
4
February 28, 2007; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Della Lou Merna was born in Galesburg on March 8, 
6
1931, to Eugene and Della (Peacock) DeWitt; she married William 
7
Merna on September 3, 1949, in Peoria; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Della was a loving mother, grandmother, and 
9
homemaker; she worked for Multi-Ad in Peoria and Canton School 
10
District 66 in the cafeteria; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in 
12
Canton, where she baked for and helped with the funeral 
13
dinners; and she was co-chair of the International Knights of 
14
Columbus Camporee; and

 
15
    WHEREAS, Preceding Della Merna in death were her parents, 
16
four brothers, and one sister; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, Della Merna is survived by her husband, William;  
18
her sons, Bill, Timothy (Carol), and Thomas (Lisa); her 
19
daughters, Nancy (Larry) Hindle and Phyllis (Lynn) Jarvis; her 
20
eleven grandchildren; her seven great-grandchildren; her

brothers, Elbert Mose DeWitt, Frank (Joyce) DeWitt, and Larry 
2
DeWitt; and her sisters, Bernice Ricci and Evagene Gilchrist;

therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
5
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
6
her family and friends, the passing of Della Merna; and be it 
7
further

 
8
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9
presented to the family of Della Merna as a symbol of our 
10
sympathy.
