| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The Partnership for Local Government Education is | ||||||
| 3 | a collaboration formed to increase interest and involvement in | ||||||
| 4 | local government in the State of Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The Partnership for Local Government Education is | ||||||
| 6 | composed of the Illinois Association of County Board Members | ||||||
| 7 | and Commissioners, the Illinois Municipal League, the Township | ||||||
| 8 | Officials of Illinois, and the University of Illinois | ||||||
| 9 | Extension; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Local government is the branch of government which | ||||||
| 11 | is closest to the people; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Illinois has more local governments than any other | ||||||
| 13 | state; 6,700 local governments, an estimated 70,000 elected | ||||||
| 14 | officials, and 100,000 appointed officials, providing critical | ||||||
| 15 | services to the citizens of the State of Illinois and our | ||||||
| 16 | communities; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Citizens do not have a clear understanding of the | ||||||
| 18 | functions of local government; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, The mission of the Partnership is to further the | ||||||
| 20 | understanding of the role that local government plays in | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | individual lives and collectively, and appreciate the many | ||||||
| 2 | services that the various forms of local governments provide | ||||||
| 3 | their constituents; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, "Local Government Week" focuses attention on the | ||||||
| 5 | need for strong, independent and active local government in | ||||||
| 6 | this State and recognizes the valuable contributions made by | ||||||
| 7 | citizens serving their communities in public office; | ||||||
| 8 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 10 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that in recognition of the | ||||||
| 11 | Partnership for Local Government Education and the leadership, | ||||||
| 12 | innovation, and valuable service provided by our State's local | ||||||
| 13 | elected and appointed official, we proclaim the week of March | ||||||
| 14 | 4-10, 2007, and the first full week of March each year | ||||||
| 15 | thereafter, as "Local Government Week" in the State of | ||||||
| 16 | Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to the Partnership for Local Government Education as | ||||||
| 19 | an expression of our esteem.
