SENATE RESOLUTION


 
2
    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Cornelius "Neal" Welborn of Chicago, who 
4
passed away on April 15, 2007; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Cornelius "Neal" Welborn was born on
February 12, 
6
1929 in Chicago; his parents were Walter and Ora Welborn; he 
7
married Jean on August 24, 1952; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Cornelius Welborn graduated from Englewood High 
9
School and attended junior college before entering the U.S. 
10
Army as a paratrooper; after returning from the Army, he worked 
11
for the Chicago Transit Authority for a short time before 
12
joining the Chicago Police Department, where had the 
13
distinction of being Chicago's first black bomb technician, a 
14
position from which he retired after 37 faithful years of 
15
service; and

 
16
    WHEREAS, Cornelius Welborn enjoyed traveling with Jean and 
17
spending time with friends; he was known to many of his friends 
18
as "the Senator" and enjoyed socializing over the years with 
19
the Lords of Chesterfield social club, the Loggers, and the 
20
Over the Hill Gang; and

    WHEREAS, Cornelius Welborn will be remembered by all who

knew him to be an excellent provider and caring father, who 
2
continually focused on the needs of his wife and children 
3
before all else; and

 
4
    WHEREAS, Cornelius Welborn was preceded in death by his 
5
son, Marc; and his brother, Nathaniel; and

 
6
    WHEREAS, Cornelius Welborn is survived by his wife, Jean; 
7
his daughter, Julie; his grandson, Terrance; his cousins, 
8
Clarence, Clarence Jr., and Stacy Randolph; his  cousin, Elaine 
9
Randolph; his brother-in-law, Edward Spears; his 
10
sister-in-law, Anita Welborn; his niece, Pamela Welborn; and a 
11
host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
12
    RESOLVED, BY THE  SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
13
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
14
his family and friends, the passing of Cornelius "Neal" 
15
Welborn; and be it further

 
16
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17
presented to the family of Cornelius "Neal" Welborn as an 
18
expression of our sympathy.
