| SENATE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Ira Harris Jr. of North Chicago, who |
| 4 |
| passed away on June 4, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Ira Harris Jr. was born on June 16, 1926 in |
| 6 |
| Texarkana, Arkansas; his parents were Ira Sr. and Jeannette |
| 7 |
| Harris; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Ira Harris Jr. was employed by the American Motors |
| 9 |
| Corporation for 40 years; he served as an inspiration for many |
| 10 |
| area youths as a coach and equipment manager for North Chicago |
| 11 |
| High School and Forest Park in North Chicago; and he dutifully |
| 12 |
| served on the North Chicago School Board for 3 terms; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Ira Harris Jr. held memberships with numerous |
| 14 |
| organizations; he was a loyal member of the United Grand Lodge, |
| 15 |
| State of Illinois, where he was a Worshipful Master, Imperial |
| 16 |
| Potentate, and 33rd Degree Mason; he was an active member of |
| 17 |
| the Elks Fort Little Lodge 1359; and he served as treasurer |
| 18 |
| with the NAACP from 1970 to 1980; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Ira Harris Jr. was preceded in death by his |
| 20 |
| parents, Ira Sr. and Jeannette, and his brother, William Lewis |
| 21 |
| Harris; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Ira Harris Jr. is survived by his wife, Zerlene |

| Echols-Harris; his sister, Joan Harris-Singleton; his |
| 3 |
| daughters, Ann Theresa Yarber, Lorris Marie Ware, and Jewel |
| 4 |
| Echols; his grandchildren, Sam Yarber, Alura Yarber, Andre |
| 5 |
| Yarber, Edward Ware III, Ira Phillip Brougton, Eurydice Echols, |
| 6 |
| and Trelusce Echols; his great-grandchildren, Irayanna |
| 7 |
| Broughton, Edward T. Ware, Essence Ware, Cody Ware, Alouwon |
| 8 |
| Yarber, Assatta Yarber, Alex Yarber, Adan Yarber, and Arianna |
| 9 |
| Yarber; his nieces, Kim Mari Williams and Joan Singleton; his |
| 10 |
| nephews, James Singleton, Steven Singleton, William Singleton, |
| 11 |
| and Scott Singleton; his sister-in-law, Frances B. Harris; and |
| 12 |
| many other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
| 14 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 15 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Ira Harris Jr.; and be |
| 16 |
| it further
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 18 |
| presented to the family of Ira Harris Jr. as an expression of |
| 19 |
| our sympathy.
