| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of Rabbi William Z. Novick, who passed away |
| 4 |
| on August 19, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served as the director of the Midwest |
| 6 |
| Region of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of |
| 7 |
| Science for forty years, working to create a relationship |
| 8 |
| between Chicago and the Institute; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served the Lynbrook Jewish |
| 10 |
| Congregation of Long Island early in his career, and together |
| 11 |
| with congregant Herbert Tenzer formed Rescue Children, helping |
| 12 |
| 3,000 orphaned survivors of the Holocaust find new lives in |
| 13 |
| Israel; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick later formed the Committee for the |
| 15 |
| Forgotten Million, assisting impoverished and endangered North |
| 16 |
| African Jews on their journey to Israel; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Weizmann Institute, Rabbi |
| 18 |
| Novick directed the Chicago office of the Jewish National Fund |
| 19 |
| for fourteen years; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Rabbi William Z. Novick was the devoted husband of |
