SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rabbi William Z. Novick, who passed away on August 19, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served as the director of the Midwest Region of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science for forty years, working to create a relationship between Chicago and the Institute; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick served the Lynbrook Jewish Congregation of Long Island early in his career, and together with congregant Herbert Tenzer formed Rescue Children, helping 3,000 orphaned survivors of the Holocaust find new lives in Israel; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi Novick later formed the Committee for the Forgotten Million, assisting impoverished and endangered North African Jews on their journey to Israel; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Weizmann Institute, Rabbi Novick directed the Chicago office of the Jewish National Fund for fourteen years; and

WHEREAS, Rabbi William Z. Novick was the devoted husband of Eda Bess Novick (nee Krivitsky); the loving father of David J. Novick, Judith (Albert) Milstein, and Daniel (Rosalie) Novick; the cherished grandfather of Stuart (Sarah) Milstein, Elana (Shami) Minkove, Ari (Ilana) Milstein, Tzvi (Adina) Novick, Rachel, Jennifer, Heather, and Ariella Novick; fond great-grandfather of Joseph, Abby, Joshua, Jonah, Tani, Eitan, Ian, and Leba; and the fond brother of Lillian Levine; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends and the many people whose lives he changed, the passing of Rabbi William Z. Novick; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Z. Novick as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
