SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dick Glennie of Oak Park, who passed away on September 15, 2007; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie grew up on the South Side of Chicago; he attended Calumet High School and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; he married his wife Linda in 1966; they started their family in Hyde Park before moving to Oak Park in 1983; and

WHEREAS, In 1967, Dick Glennie founded Gregg Communication Systems, Inc., a telecommunications company that supplied telephone systems to business and specialized in call centers; he served as vice president and general manager of the company from 1967 to 1990 and served as company president from 1990 until his retirement in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie's prestigious position at Gregg Communication Systems, Inc. enabled him to spend quality time with his children and allowed him to show up to his children's concerts and soccer games; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a passionate music lover; he was a member of the Apollo Chorus in Chicago for over 40 years, serving for many years on the chorus' board; he was also an active participant in the Chicago Children's Choir; he regularly attended the opera and symphony concerts as well; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a passionate supporter of the Great Lakes area; he was a member of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, which protested the dumping practices of the British Petroleum Corporation into the waters of the Great Lakes; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was an avid traveler, preferring to travel by train; he and his wife also traveled to China, Australia, and Europe, and were regular hosts to foreign exchange students; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was a longtime member of the First United Church of Oak Park, where he joined the peace vigil group that protested against the war in Iraq on the church's front steps every Friday night and met every Saturday morning; he was also a frequent letter writer in the op-ed section of the Chicago Tribune and Wednesday Journal newspapers; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie was preceded in death by his sisters, Marjorie (Bernard) Rickert, Carol (the late David) Cameron, and Dorothy Glennie; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Michele (Bradford) Wolter, Robert Dick (Amanda Sewell), Matthew, and Gregory (Kirsten Langley) Glennie; his grandchildren, Caroline, Marianne, Gabriel, and Eleanor; and his many nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Dick Glennie will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as a passionate and caring person who loved talking to everyone around him; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dick Glennie; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dick Glennie as an expression of our sympathy.
