| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Bernice Caldwell of Alton, who passed |
| 4 |
| away on December 13, 2007; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell was born on July 22, 1929 in |
| 6 |
| Alton; her parents were Jason and Nancy (Kimbrough) Holloway; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell was a graduate of Alton High |
| 9 |
| School; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell was employed with Millers Mutual |
| 11 |
| Insurance Co. and Alton School District 11, where she served as |
| 12 |
| a bus monitor; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell was a member of the Morning Star |
| 14 |
| Baptist Church, where she served as Mother of the Church, |
| 15 |
| condolence clerk, and as chairperson of Women's Day; she served |
| 16 |
| as a board member of the Alton Branch of the NAACP; she also |
| 17 |
| served as the Resident Commissioner of the Alton Housing |
| 18 |
| Authority; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell was preceded in death by her |
| 20 |
| parents, Jason and Nancy; her husband, Henry Caldwell; John |

| WHEREAS, Bernice Caldwell is survived by her sons, Ronald |

| Derrick Smith, and Larry Smith; her daughters, Beverly Kaiser, |
| 8 |
| Debra Bradley, Patricia Mack (Cedric), Marsha K. Smith, and |
| 9 |
| Felicia Caldwell; her 35 grandchildren and 48 |
| 10 |
| great-grandchildren; her sisters, Nancy Harris (John), |
| 11 |
| Mercedes Frazier, and Joyce Goings; her brothers, Rudolph |
| 12 |
| Holloway, James Holloway (Betty), and Alvin Holloway; her best |
| 13 |
| friend of 70 years, Joann Searles, and her special friend, Ann |
| 14 |
| Scott-Jordon; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and |
| 15 |
| friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 18 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Bernice Caldwell; and be |
| 19 |
| it further
|

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 21 |
| presented to the family of Bernice Caldwell as an expression of |
| 22 |
| our sympathy.
