SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael Seaton of Chicago, who passed away on January 11, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Michael Seaton was born on May 26, 1959 in Chicago to the late Edward Benjamin Seaton and Barbara Jean Seaton; he attended and graduated from Shoop Elementary School and Morgan Park High School located in Chicago; he later attended Loop Junior College and Malcolm X College where he completed coursework in computer technology; he earned numerous certificates and accolades for his computer expertise; and

WHEREAS, Michael Seaton began his career in the computer field with Hewlett Packard during the early 1980s; repairing and building computers was a passion that he freely shared; Michael and his wife began the process for a not-for-profit organization (Kelechi Enterprise), so that he could share his knowledge and gifts on a larger scale before his passing; at the time of his death, he was employed as a System Administrator at Advocate Trinity Hospital; and

WHEREAS, On February 19, 2000, Michael was united in Holy Matrimony to Melody L. Crim; during their nearly 8 years of marriage, Michael was a devoted husband and loving step-father, who was affectionately called "Pops" by his children and their friends; and

WHEREAS, In May of 2004, Michael heard the Lord's voice and joined his family in membership at Covenant United Church of Christ; Covenant became Michael's second home as he faithfully and enthusiastically served in the media and computer ministries; and

WHEREAS, Michael Seaton's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife Melody; his two stepchildren, Veronique and Ernest; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Ollie Knight; his brother, Lawrence (Lorna) Seaton; his sisters, Deborah Seaton and LaDonna (Thomas) Hyde; his sisters-in-law, Millicent (Harvey) Echols and Monica (Will) Smith; Jaylen and Jahmal Smith, who are known as "Uncle Mike's fans"; childhood friends Sam Purvis, Golan Rowe, and Keith Malone; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Michael Seaton; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Seaton as a symbol of our sympathy.
