SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jacqueline Hendry, who passed away on
4 January 27, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry was born on March 25, 1930 in
6 Jacksonville, Florida; her parents were Savorhett and Sadie
7 Morse; she married Leon Hendry on October 13, 1946; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry was educated at Liberty County
9 in Midway, Georgia; after graduating at the age of 15, she
10 matriculated at Savannah State College; she later attended the
11 Brewster School of Nursing, receiving her degree as a
12 Registered Nurse in 1959; she later earned her bachelor's and
13 master's degrees in Christian Education from the International
14 Seminary in Orlando, Florida; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry was raised in the African
16 Methodist Episcopal faith; when her nursing career relocated
17 her to Maywood, she united with Canaan AME; she joined
18 Progressive Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of the
19 late Dr. James B. Alford Sr. in 1971; and
 
20     WHEREAS, On July 9, 1995, Jacqueline Hendry was ordained as
21 one of the first female Elders at Progressive Life-Giving Word

1 Cathedral under the pastorate of Apostle Donald Alford; as an
2 Elder, she has served as Secretary of the Women's Department,
3 Sunday School teacher, nurse, President of the Nurses' Board,
4 missionary, dean of Progressive Christian Life Enhancement
5 Program, and counselor; she was an ordained evangelist, who
6 inspired many with her thorough, unique, spirited, and profound
7 teaching style; she also co-instructed the first three-year
8 classes for inspiring ministries at Progressive Life-Giving
9 Word Cathedral, preparing approximately 30 ministers for their
10 duties; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry was an avid reader with an
12 extensive library; she also liked to travel, visiting many
13 places in North America, Europe, and the Caribbean; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry's son Alja was the 6th grade
15 teacher of Illinois Senator Kimberly A. Lightford and her
16 siblings, Janon, Carmelita, and Melvin Jr.; he is the friend,
17 coach, and extended family member of many youth in Maywood,
18 surely traits which he acquired from his beloved mother; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry was preceded in death by her
20 parents and her daughter, Gloria Roxanne; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry is survived by her husband of 61
22 years, Leon; her children, Mickey (Wesley), Al (Regenia),

1 Denise, and Deborah (Rudolph) Monroe; her grandchildren, Paul
2 (Emily), Michal (Aquaris) Jones, Ginger (Justin) White, Debra
3 Jones, Jason, Joi Friend, Erica Benefield, Ryan, Jonathan,
4 Rachael, Jordan, Ashley Monroe, and Jackson; her
5 great-grandchildren, Alijiah, Amariah, Mya, James, Leon,
6 DeAndre, and Josiah; her daughters-in-law, Barbara (Joe) Jones
7 and Gwen McNeal; her stepmother, Elaine Morse; her sisters,
8 Sharon Laws and Gabelynn (Richard) Stevens; her brothers,
9 Harold Carter, Savorhett / Saif Morse, and Raymond (Mazie)
10 Morse; her sister-in-law, Mary (Louis) Sams; her godchildren,
11 Derrick Crawford, Wrasulin Michels, Pastor Ricky Harris; her
12 faithful and loyal caregiver, Albrida Jackson; her special
13 friends, Fannie Nuness, Evelyn Brown, Gladys Lloyd, Betty Mims,
14 and Rose Sherman; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins,
15 extended family members, and friends; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Jacqueline Hendry will be remembered by all who
17 knew and loved her as a loving and pious woman whose generosity
18 and love for her fellow man was unmatched; therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21 her family and friends, the passing of Jacqueline Hendry; and
22 be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
