| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 |
| learn of the death of
Lester Saxe of Benton, who passed away on |
| 4 |
| March 2, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe was born on September 23, 1916 in |
| 6 |
| rural Wayne County; he was the fourth child of eight for Glenn |
| 7 |
| and Edith Potter Saxe; he married Susie Ellen Harris on |
| 8 |
| February 27, 1937; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, After his marriage, Lester Saxe and his wife spent |
| 10 |
| a few years as tenant farmers in West Village in rural Edwards |
| 11 |
| County; he left the farm to work for Country Mutual Casualty |
| 12 |
| Company; and |
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, In 1944, Lester Saxe joined the United States |
| 14 |
| Army; he served in the South Pacific and was on a ship heading |
| 15 |
| to invade Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped, ending |
| 16 |
| World War II; after returning from the war, he continued as a |
| 17 |
| claims adjustor for Country Mutual, retiring in 1981 after 40 |
| 18 |
| years of service; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, In 1949, Lester Saxe and his wife bought a farm |
| 20 |
| and moved their family to rural Thompsonville, where they |
| 21 |
| resided until his wife's passing in 1993; and
|
|

| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe was active in the community as a 4-H |
| 2 |
| leader and Akin Grade School board member; he served as a |
| 3 |
| Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and lay leader at Mount |
| 4 |
| Etna Methodist Church; he was also a member of the Akin Water |
| 5 |
| District and Franklin County Farm Bureau Boards and the First |
| 6 |
| Church of the Nazarene in Benton; and |
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe was a faithful follower of all |
| 8 |
| extracurricular activities in which his children and |
| 9 |
| grandchildren were involved; he enjoyed playing his harmonica |
| 10 |
| whenever and wherever the urge arose; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe was preceded in death by his wife, |
| 12 |
| Susie; his children, Charlotte and David; his sisters, Ruby |
| 13 |
| Amann, Clara Lankford, and Florence Hortin; and his brothers, |
| 14 |
| Drexal, Arthur, and Dante Saxe; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe is survived by his children and their |
| 16 |
| spouses, Merilee and Lindell Anderson, Tom and Susan Saxe, |
| 17 |
| Larry and Sharon Saxe, and Elaine and Norman Hayden; his 13 |
| 18 |
| grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; his sister, Marie |
| 19 |
| Green; his sisters-in-law, Marjorie Saxe and Mildred Saxe; and |
| 20 |
| his several nieces and nephews; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Lester Saxe's family increased in size when he |
|

| married Marjorie Cunningham and added her children, Charles |
| 2 |
| Webster and wife, Sondra, David Webster and wife, Sharon, and |
| 3 |
| Joyce Morton and her husband, John; their children brought them |
| 4 |
| 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it |
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |
| 6 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 7 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Lester Saxe; and be it |
| 8 |
| further
|
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 10 |
| presented to the family of Lester Saxe as an expression of our |
| 11 |
| sympathy.
