SENATE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3
learn of the death of
Rick Shoger of Edwardsville, who passed 
4
away on April 2, 2008; and

 
5
    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger was born on November 11, 1947 in El 
6
Dorado, Kansas; his parents were Noel and Peggy Lyons Shoger; 
7
and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger graduated with a master's degree from 
9
Kansas State University and was a Certified Public Accountant; 
10
and

 
11
    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger was the President and Chairman of the 
12
Board for Madison Mutual Insurance Company; he had been 
13
employed with Madison Mutual Insurance Company since June 16, 
14
1980; in October of 1981, he was elected Vice President of the 
15
company and appointed to the Board of Directors; in March of 
16
1983, he was elected Vice President and Assistant Secretary of 
17
Madison Mutual; in March of 1994, he was elected President and 
18
Treasurer; he was elected Chairman of the Board in March of 
19
2004; prior to joining Madison Mutual, he was employed by 
20
Coopers & Lybrand as an auditor; and

    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger was a YMCA Board Member, Treasurer of

the EGHM Edwardsville School District No. 7 Foundation, 
2
Treasurer of the Edwardsville Rotary Club, and Past Trustee of 
3
the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies 
4
(NAMIC); he was a member and served on the Board of Directors 
5
for the Sunset Hills Country Club; and
 
6
    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger was preceded in death by his parents; 
7
and

 
8
    WHEREAS, Rick Shoger is survived by his son, Ryan D. 
9
Shoger; his daughters, Nicole M. and husband Kiley Cirillo and 
10
Ashley L. Shoger; his grandchild, Kale Cirillo; his brother, 
11
Darrel and wife Kathy Shoger; and his sister, Bonnie Mannes; 
12
therefore, be it

    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL 
14
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
15
his family and friends, the passing of Rick Shoger; and be it 
16
further

 
17
    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
18
presented to the family of Rick Shoger as an expression of our 
19
sympathy.
