SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Hugh O. Worthen of Alton, who passed away on June 3, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Hugh O. Worthen was born March 7, 1914, in Murphysboro to Charles and Edith (Porter) Worthen; he married the former Dorothy L. Raines on June 15, 1940; she passed away on June 13, 1997; and

WHEREAS, He was a veteran of the National Guard Calvary Division out of New Mexico; he taught fourth grade at Lincoln School in Wood River, as well as serving as the school principal; he later went to work for Amoco as a fuel blender, retiring in 1978 after 36 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Worthen was a city councilman in Wood River from 1952 to 1962 and served on the Wood River School Board from 1946 to 1962; he was an officer at the Central States Petroleum Union and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Standard Oil Torch Club, and Music Makers Group; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Elmer, Charles and Clifford Worthen; and

WHEREAS, Hugh Worthen is survived by his two daughters and one son-in-law, Marcia and Dan Harmon and Diana Worthen; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sherrill Worthen and Gary and Leslie Worthen; his six grandchildren; his five great-grandsons; and his three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary and Hubert Walsh, Margaret Howard, and Agnes and Gene Dale; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Hugh O. Worthen; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hugh O. Worthen as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
