SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Darren Day, who passed away on June 27, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Darren Day was born on August 16, 1962 in Chicago; his parents were William and Shirley Day; and

WHEREAS, Darren Day was baptized as a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ under the leadership of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright; he attended St. Dorothy's Elementary School and Mount Carmel High School, where he was a member of the 1980 Mt. Carmel State Championship Football team; he attended Oxford University and later attended Bowie State University, where he majored in mathematics; and

WHEREAS, Darren Day was employed with the Sam's Club/Walmart family, where he quickly became a top sales manager; his great love for children led him to work at the Chicago Public Schools for many years; he also coached football at Claremont Academy, leading his team to the city championship many times; and

WHEREAS, Darren Day is survived by his devoted wife, Tawanna; his children, Mary, Samantha (Davonski) Wilson, Dylan, Donovan, and Trinity; his grandchildren, Nikyia, Chastity, Taylor, Jeremiah, Jamauri, and Jason; his loving parents, William and Shirley; his sister, Teri; and his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends; and

WHEREAS, Darren Day will be remembered by all who knew and loved him as an outspoken and fun-loving man who had a heart as pure as gold; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Darren Day; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Darren Day as an expression of our sympathy.
