SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative Maureen Murphy of Evergreen Park, who passed away on August 9, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was born on November 14, 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Evergreen Park; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy held a variety of elected offices over the course of nearly three decades; during the 1980s, she served on the Evergreen Park High School Board and as Worth Township clerk; she spent four years in the Illinois House of Representatives, starting in 1993, and was a member of the Cook County Board of Review from 1998 until 2007; she also served as chairwoman of the Cook County Republican Party from 2002 to 2004; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was well known as an outspoken and tenacious public servant who worked hard to educate the public about the appeals process during her tenure with the Cook County Board of Review; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy was proud to call herself a conservative, dubbing herself a "conservative feminist" who fought for the sanctity of life and ensuring ballot integrity in Cook County; she was also a devout Catholic who attended Mass daily; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy is survived by her husband, Jack; her sons, Jason, Shaun, Michael, and Matthew; and her grandchildren, Brennah, Maggie, Jack, and Nathan; and

WHEREAS, Maureen Murphy will be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a hard-working and passionate wife, mother, and public servant who always fought for what she believed in; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of our former colleague, Maureen Murphy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Maureen Murphy as an expression of our sympathy.
