| SENATE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 |
| learn of the death of
Nina Lynette Gilbert; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert was born on October 8, 1986 in Blue |
5 |
| Island to Leonard K. Gilbert III and Sharon Gilbert; and |
6 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert started her academic career in 1989 |
7 |
| at the Chesterfield Tom Thumb Daycare Center; she later went on |
8 |
| to attend St. Joachim Catholic School, where she again |
9 |
| demonstrated the gifts God gave her; she then attended St. |
10 |
| Dorothy Catholic School after Joachim Catholic School closed |
11 |
| down; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert finished her elementary education at |
13 |
| St. John de la Salle Academy; Ms. Gilbert was the first |
14 |
| elementary school student to win the prestigious Quentis Benard |
15 |
| Garth Award in 1997; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert attended the Gwendolyn Brooks |
17 |
| College Preparatory School (formerly the South Side College |
18 |
| Preparatory School); Ms. Gilbert was honored to call the |
19 |
| school's principal, the late Dr. Pamela Dyson, her friend and |
20 |
| mentor; and
|

| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert began working with the Leo Burnett |
2 |
| Advertising Company in downtown Chicago after finishing her |
3 |
| sophomore year of high school; and
|
4 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert attended the Florida Agriculture & |
5 |
| Mechanics University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida; while |
6 |
| attending FAMU, Ms. Gilbert served as the Vice President of the |
7 |
| FAMU Chicago Club; she was also a volunteer for the Student |
8 |
| Government Association and a member of the FAMU Bowling Team; |
9 |
| and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her |
11 |
| personal savior in May of 1995 and was baptized on July 2, 1995 |
12 |
| at the Trinity United Church of Christ under the pastoral |
13 |
| leadership of Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert made her transition to eternal life |
15 |
| on Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the mere age of 21; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert was preceded in death by her sister, |
17 |
| Danielle, and her maternal grandparents, James and Mary |
18 |
| Montgomery; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Nina Gilbert leaves to cherish her memories her |
20 |
| loving parents, Leonard III and Sharon Gilbert; her brother, |
21 |
| Leonard IV; her grandparents, Lenard and Lillian Gilbert; her |

| aunt, Gail Portis; her uncles, Paul (Yolanda) Montgomery, |

| William Gilbert, Leslie Grant, Nathaniel Grant, Darren |

| Portis and DuWayne Sr.( Verona); her "Special Portis Boys", |

| Tyler, Tariq, and DuWayne Jr.; and an abundance of relatives, |

| church family members, and friends; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
9 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Nina Lynette Gilbert; |
10 |
| and be it further
|
11 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 |
| presented to the family of Nina Lynette Gilbert as an |
13 |
| expression of our sympathy.
