| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |

| learn of the death of Catherine Atwater Galbraith of Plandome, |
| 4 |
| New York, who passed away on October 1, 2008; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Catherine earned her undergraduate degree in |
| 6 |
| Romance languages from Smith College and studied German as a |
| 7 |
| graduate student in Munich; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, She worked for the Library of Congress and the |
| 9 |
| Justice Department as a researcher; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Catherine was an accomplished writer and fluent in |
| 11 |
| several languages, including Hindi; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, She and her husband, Kenneth, frequented the White |
| 13 |
| House during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson; Catherine was |
| 14 |
| a favorite dance partner of President Lyndon B. Johnson; and |
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Catherine was the beloved wife of the late John |
| 16 |
| Kenneth Galbraith, an influential economist and United States |
| 17 |
| Ambassador to India from 1961 to 1963; the loving mother of |
| 18 |
| four sons; and grandmother to ten grandchildren; therefore, be |
| 19 |
