Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act. Provides that if unclaimed property that may have been used in the commission of a crime or that may assist in the investigation of a crime is delivered to the Treasurer under this Act, the Treasurer after consulting standards developed by the Department of State Police, may transfer that property to the Department of State Police or to another appropriate law enforcement agency. Provides that any person or entity acting in accordance with these provisions has civil immunity from suit.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Replaces everything after the enacting clause with substantially similar provisions that amend the Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act to provide that, after consulting standards developed by the Department of State Police, unclaimed property that may have been used in the commission of a crime shall be transferred to the Department of State Police or to another appropriate law enforcement agency to allow the law enforcement authority to determine if a criminal investigation should be undertaken. Provides that this property shall be held by the law enforcement authority in accordance with existing law and rules concerning evidence.
