Synopsis As Introduced
Amends the School Code. With respect to criminal history records checks of applicants for employment with a school district, includes other school districts and a local law enforcement agency as entities to which any information concerning the record of convictions obtained by the president of the school board or the regional superintendent of schools may be transmitted.

House Committee Amendment No. 1
Provides that the record of convictions information may be transmitted to the president of a school board upon the request of the president of another school board if the applicant has applied for employment with that board.

House Committee Amendment No. 2
Deletes reference to:
105 ILCS 5/34-18.5from Ch. 122, par. 34-18.5

Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the School Code. In provisions concerning criminal history records checks in school districts other than the Chicago school district, adds the Department of State Police or Statewide Sex Offender Database, or both (for clarification purposes) to the list of persons or entities to which the president of the school board or regional superintendent may transmit information concerning the record of convictions. Effective immediately.

Senate Floor Amendment No. 1
Adds reference to:
105 ILCS 5/34-18.5from Ch. 122, par. 34-18.5

Provides that in order to student teach in the public schools, a person is required to authorize a fingerprint-based criminal history records check and checks of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Statewide Child Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth Database prior to participating in any field experiences in the public schools, with authorization for and payment of the costs of the checks furnished by the student teacher. Provides that results of the checks must be furnished to the higher education institution where the student teacher is enrolled and the superintendent of the school district where the student is assigned. Amends the Chicago School District Article of the School Code to make similar changes.
