| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 349

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 349 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding | ||||||
| 5 | Section 11-503.5 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (625 ILCS 5/11-503.5 new)
| ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 11-503.5. Distracted driving. | ||||||
| 8 | (a) A person commits distracted driving when he or she | ||||||
| 9 | fails to operate a motor vehicle according to the law or | ||||||
| 10 | ordinance governing the movement of vehicles while (i) engaging | ||||||
| 11 | in text messaging, or (ii) reading a newspaper, book, or | ||||||
| 12 | magazine. | ||||||
| 13 | (b) Any person found in violation of subsection (a) of this | ||||||
| 14 | Section commits a petty offense.".
