|
Amends the School Code. Provides that if a school is located in a low-income and high violence area, as determined by the State Board of Education, then the school board shall require that (1) the school have at least one full-time social worker available for students; (2) the school, if an elementary school, have a gymnasium available for recess; (3) the school, if an elementary school, have at least one recess per school day; and (4) the school offer at least one course in art.

| AN ACT concerning education.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
5 |
| 10-20.46 and 34-18.37 as follows: |

| (105 ILCS 5/10-20.46 new) |

| Sec. 10-20.46. Requirements for schools in low-income and |
8 |
| high violence areas. If a school is located in a low-income and |
9 |
| high violence area, as determined by the State Board of |
10 |
| Education, then the school board shall require all of the |
11 |
| following: |
12 |
| (1) That the school have at least one full-time social |
13 |
| worker available for students. |
14 |
| (2) That the school, if an elementary school, have a |
15 |
| gymnasium available for recess, which shall be in a safe |
16 |
| area. |
17 |
| (3) That the school, if an elementary school, have at |
18 |
| least one recess per school day, which shall be in a safe |
19 |
| area. |
20 |
| (4) That the school offer at least one course in art, |
21 |
| which shall be in a safe area. |
