1 | AN ACT concerning elections.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| |||||||||||||||||||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing | |||||||||||||||||||||||
5 | Sections 4-14.1, 5-9.1, and 6-55 as follows:

7 | Sec. 4-14.1.
It is the duty of the county clerk to examine, | |||||||||||||||||||||||
8 | monthly, the
records deposited in his office pursuant to the | |||||||||||||||||||||||
9 | Vital Records Act that
relate to deaths in the county, and to | |||||||||||||||||||||||
10 | cancel the registration of any
person so discovered to have who | |||||||||||||||||||||||
11 | has died during the preceding month.

12 | In addition, the election authority may examine obituaries | |||||||||||||||||||||||
13 | in a newspaper having general circulation throughout a | |||||||||||||||||||||||
14 | municipality or county where the decedents named in the | |||||||||||||||||||||||
15 | obituaries lived immediately prior to death. The election | |||||||||||||||||||||||
16 | authority may cancel the registration of such a decedent after | |||||||||||||||||||||||
17 | the authenticity and accuracy of the obituary have been | |||||||||||||||||||||||
18 | confirmed to the election authority in writing by a funeral | |||||||||||||||||||||||
19 | director of the funeral home or other location where the | |||||||||||||||||||||||
20 | memorial service, wake, funeral, or similar service for the | |||||||||||||||||||||||

4 | throughout a municipality or county where the decedents named | ||||||
5 | in the obituaries lived immediately prior to death. The board | ||||||
6 | of election commissioners may cancel the registration of such a | ||||||
7 | decedent after the authenticity and accuracy of the obituary | ||||||
8 | have been confirmed to the board of election commissioners in | ||||||
9 | writing by a funeral director of the funeral home or other | ||||||
10 | location where the memorial service, wake, funeral, or similar | ||||||
11 | service for the decedent was held. | ||||||
