10 ILCS 5/3-6 new

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that a person who is 17 years old on the date of a primary may vote at the primary if that person is otherwise qualified and will be 18 years old on the date of the following election.

1     AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section
5 3-6 as follows:
 
6     (10 ILCS 5/3-6 new)
7     Sec. 3-6. Voting age. Notwithstanding any other provision
8 of law, a person 17 years old on the date of a primary election
9 who is otherwise qualified to vote is qualified to vote at that
10 primary, or vote an absentee, grace period, or early voting
11 ballot with respect to that primary, if that person will be 18
12 years old on the date of the following election.
13     References in this Code and elsewhere to the requirement
14 that a person must be 18 years old to vote shall be interpreted
15 in accordance with this Section.
