Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates the first Thursday of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week including that day as Police Week. Recognizes each May 15th as National Peace officers Memorial Day.

| AN ACT concerning government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by |
5 |
| adding Section 125 as follows: |
6 |
| (5 ILCS 490/125 new) |
7 |
| Sec. 125. Peace Officers Memorial Day; Police Week; |
8 |
| National Peace Officers Memorial Day. |

| (a) The first Thursday in May of each year is designated |
10 |
| Peace Officers Memorial Day in Illinois. The week of each year |
11 |
| that includes Peace Officers Memorial Day is designated Police |
12 |
| Week in Illinois. Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week |
13 |
| shall be observed throughout the State by the citizens of |
14 |
| Illinois with civic remembrances of the sacrifices made on |
15 |
| their behalf by the peace officers of Illinois, especially the |
16 |
| ultimate sacrifice given by those officers who lost their lives |
17 |
| in the line of duty. |

| (b) May 15th of each year is recognized in Illinois as |
19 |
| National Peace Officers Memorial Day, to be observed throughout |
20 |
| the State in coordination with the citizens of the United |
21 |
| States with respect and gratitude for the service to America |
22 |
| given by peace officers across the nation.
