| 1 | AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 2644

| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 2644 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | adding Section 125 as follows: | ||||||
| 6 | (5 ILCS 490/125 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 125. Peace Officers Memorial Day; National Peace | ||||||
| 8 | Officers Memorial Day. | ||||||
| 9 | (a) The first Thursday in May of each year is designated | ||||||
| 10 | Peace Officers Memorial Day in Illinois. Peace Officers | ||||||
| 11 | Memorial Day shall be observed throughout the State by the | ||||||
| 12 | citizens of Illinois with civic remembrances of the sacrifices | ||||||
| 13 | made on their behalf by the peace officers of Illinois, | ||||||
| 14 | especially the ultimate sacrifice given by those officers who | ||||||
| 15 | lost their lives in the line of duty. | ||||||
| 16 | (b) May 15th of each year is recognized in Illinois as | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | National Peace Officers Memorial Day, to be observed throughout | ||||||
| 2 | the State in coordination with the citizens of the United | ||||||
| 3 | States with respect and gratitude for the service to America | ||||||
| 4 | given by peace officers across the nation. ".
