| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Hearing Instrument Consumer Protection Act |

| is amended by changing Section 1 as follows:
|

| Sec. 1. Purpose. The
The purpose of this Act is to protect |
9 |
| the
hearing-impaired
public from incompetent and dishonest |
10 |
| dispensers of hearing instruments who
could
endanger the |
11 |
| health, safety and welfare of the People of this State. The
|
12 |
| Federal Food and Drug Administration
has recommended that State |
13 |
| legislation is necessary in order to establish
standards of |
14 |
| competency and to impose stringent penalties for those who
|
15 |
| violate the public trust in this field of health care. |
