Amends the Local Records Act. Provides that the provisions of the Election Code do not supersede the provisions of the Local Records Act with regard to procedures for the disposal of election records. Provides that local election authorities must comply with the provisions of the Local Records Act when destroying or disposing of public records. Amends the Election Code to make conforming changes. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning government.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Local Records Act is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 14a as follows: |

| (50 ILCS 205/14a new) |

| Sec. 14a. Procedures for the disposal of election records. |
8 |
| The provisions of the Election Code do not supersede the |
9 |
| provisions of this Act with regard to procedures for the |
10 |
| disposal of election records. Local election authorities must |
11 |
| comply with the provisions of this Act when destroying or |
12 |
| disposing of public records.

| Section 10. The Election Code is amended by adding Section |
14 |
| 6A-8 as follows: |

| (10 ILCS 5/6A-8 new) |

| Sec. 6A-8. Procedures for the disposal of election records. |

| This Code is subject to the provisions of Section 14a of the |
18 |
| Local Records Act. |

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
20 |
| becoming law.
