Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Provides that the Department may make grants to employees of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a professional degree or certification. Requires that an employee's application for a grant be approved by the facility at which he or she is employed. Provides that, as a condition of receiving a grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the degree or certification program. Effective immediately.

| AN ACT concerning State government.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is |
5 |
| amended by adding Section 2.08 as follows: |
6 |
| (20 ILCS 2805/2.08 new) |

| Sec. 2.08. Education grants for employees of veterans |
8 |
| medical facilities. The Department may make grants to employees |
9 |
| of veterans medical facilities for the purpose of obtaining a |
10 |
| professional degree or certification. The Department shall |
11 |
| prescribe the form and manner of applying for a grant. An |
12 |
| employee's application for a grant must be approved by the |
13 |
| facility at which he or she is employed before it may be |
14 |
| approved by the Department. As a condition of receiving a |
15 |
| grant, an employee must agree to continue his or her employment |
16 |
| at the facility for 4 years after successfully completing the |
17 |
| degree or certification program.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
19 |
| becoming law.
